Conversations are a series of panel discussion that take place at GCAC. Placing current CSUF MFA students working on degrees in specific medium, in conversation with individuals currently successful in that medium, in conversation with individuals who play a role in decision-making within that field. For example: MFA artist, in conversation with a successful artist in the field, in conversation with a gallery owner; MFA theatre student, in conversation with actor, in conversation with theatre director/TV show creator; exhibition/design student, in conversation with curator, in conversation with museum director. The MFA students will direct the conversation, asking questions focused toward approaches for greater success and opportunities in the field as they near and complete graduation.
6pm – TONY DE LOS REYES: GALLERY TALK

Tony de los Reyes’ current exhibition, Border Theory, is currently on exhibition at GCAC through November 14, 2012. The artist debut of new series of rigorous, visually tactile paintings that contemplate abstraction as the foundation of both color field painting and the establishment of the US-Mexico border. In works that are both optically vivid as well as quietly provocative, Border Theory posits that the inclinations behind border-making and the aesthetic principles of abstraction are powered by the same habitual pursuit of spatial order.

7-10pm – CSUF STUDENTS: CERAMIC AND GLASS EXHIBITION AND SALE
through January 6
This year’s annual ceramics exhibition and sale focuses on the work of students from California State University, Fullerton. The exhibition will be organized through the collaborative efforts of CSUF School of Art Associate Professor Nobuhito (Nobu) Nishigawara and Professor and Glass Program Coordinator John Leighton.
7-10pm – SEAN C. FLAHERTY: AN OVERTURE IN PARTS
through January 13
Through a three act video installation, appropriating the soundtrack of the Broadway musical Les Miserables (based upon the 1862 French novel by author Victor Hugo), artist Sean C. Flaherty explores complex family and relationship dynamics. The installation includes the video works: Act I The Confrontation: Script as Set; Act II One Day More: A Family in Parts; Act III A Heart Full of Love:Familiar Parts. Flaherty’s work allows the personal to become universal, providing seemingly intimate and private shared matters to be opened to critique.
