Lane Macy Kiefaber
Lane Macy Kiefaber has been working since 2004 in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on the support and management of start-up organizations and programs. Lane is an experienced executive with a demonstrated history of working with nonprofit organizations to support the creation of sustainable business models, effective and supportive business infrastructure and leadership, as well as impactful programs. She is also skilled at strategic planning, problem-solving, and follow-through of organizing, bringing people together, making people feel comfortable in a group and/or part of the mission, vision and goals, business development, proposal writing, and fundraising.
Prior to starting her own business in May 2009, Lane was President/CEO of Project Access. Project Access is a nonprofit organization that partners with affordable housing developers to provide education, health, and social services to working families and seniors living on fixed incomes who live in affordable housing. While at Project Access, Lane developed a business model that allowed the organization to scale from five locations to more than 35 sites in ten counties over five years, to ultimately serve more than 7,800 low-income individuals each year. Lane was also responsible for taking Project Access from a grassroots organization with a $640,000 annual operating budget to a more competent and successful business with substantial earned income, a professional staff and board, a budget of $3.1 million, and an established name in the affordable housing and donor communities.
Before Project Access, Lane served as a Director at Orangewood Children’s Foundation. In this capacity, Lane founded and directed CONNECT, a program that provided strategic and business planning services, and capacity-building support for nonprofit organizations, and launched a countywide AmeriCorps initiative that is still thriving. Throughout her career, Lane has advised a variety of nonprofit organizations on strategic planning, outreach, fundraising and program development. Lane also held the position of International Assistant to the President of the U.S. Olympic Committee, assisting with international special projects and fundraising.
Lane’s philanthropic endeavors were with two general purpose giving foundations in Colorado to include the Joseph Henry Edmondson Foundation as Executive Director, and as a Fellow with El Pomar Foundation where she supported the start-up and work of several nonprofit organizations and staff support of various innovative Foundation programs.
In a consulting capacity, some of Lane’s clients have been the Orange County United Way, Orange County Community Foundation, Children and Families Commission of Orange County, Affordable Housing Access, and Center 4 Learning starting their nonprofit, Kids’ Potential. Lane has also volunteered her time with dozens of nonprofit organizations in a management consulting capacity.
Lane has been recognized by the Orange County Business Journal for its Annual Women in Business Awards in 2008 and was honored in 2008 by the National Hispanic Business Women’s Association as Outstanding Woman of the Year. Over the years, Lane has served on several nonprofit boards of directors and advisory councils. Lane has also spent the past ten years supporting her husband in his leadership position with the Navy being there for spouses and their families.
Lane received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from California State University, Northridge and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, Denver. Lane is married to John Christian Kiefaber, a U.S. Navy Commander, Operations Officer for the USS Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier, and is a helicopter pilot. They have two beautiful daughters, Macy and Quinn.
