AIAOC Santa Ana Art Walk Exhibition and Competition


September 1 - September 30, 2010

The Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects presents an evening of community outreach, camaraderie and artistic expression at AIAOC's first annual Art Walk Event and Cocktail Reception. AIA members and friends in the Orange County community are invited to showcase their artistic talents and maybe win a prize.

AIA members, students K-12, college students and the arts community at large are eligible to submit work. All entries need to be e-mailed in a pdf format to info@aiaoc.org by September 1, 2010 or register at www.aiaoc.org/. There is an entry fee of $20 per item.

All submitted artworks will be on display at Room & Board in Santa Ana on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at a cocktail reception from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Prior to the event guest curators will judge the art and award prizes to the top selections.

Sculptor Preston Daniels concludes his successful graduate studies with his Master of Fine Arts exhibition at the West Gallery on the campus of California State University, Fullerton. This exhibit includes sculpture and drawings from the past three years Preston studied at CSUF and lived at Grand Central Art Center. Past accomplishments include participating the the 2010 OsCene at the Laguna Art Museum, and working on a commissioned sculpture for director Tim Burton.

After studying character animation at Cal Arts and drawing and painting at USC, artist Patrick Strand is receiving his Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Fullerton. His education culminates in a final exhibition at the East Gallery on the CSUF campus where Strand will feature an installation of his drawings.

The Collapse of Visual Information

Metadataphile: The Collapse of Visual Information will feature sixteen international artists who transform and recontextualize data into art that makes socio-political statements. These artists appropriate, hack, pirate, and reorder metadata from objects, events and cultural phenomena into film, installation, painting, photography, sculpture, and sound. This exhibition was curated by GCAC resident Lilia Lamas and Culver Art Center curator Jennifer Frias.
Featured artists: Cory Arcangel + Frankie Martin, Josh Azzarella, Petronio Bendito, Matthew Bryant, Sky Burchard, Kathy Grayson, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Ken Rinaldo, Kim Rugg, Jason Salavon, Peter Sarkisian, John Sisley, Stephanie Syjuco, Michael Toillion, and Jason Varone.
